Longford Castle – 1st Sept 2023

A visit to Longford Castle is surely a treat but be prepared for a long day! Situated near Sailsbury, it is said to be one of the grandest stately homes in England and has been in the same family, the Earls of Radnor, for 300 years. The building is of architectural significance being of a triangular shape but it is the pictures that are our prime interest.

An outstanding collection of contemporary portraits and old masters was built up during the eighteenth century. Expect to see Holbein’s and Poussin’s among others. The settings for the pictures was also a major consideration and no expense was spared on interior décor.. So we can be guaranteed a feast for the eyes architecturally, interiors and paintings. The Castle has been described as one of Britain’s hidden treasure’s and this could well be because it is so difficult to win the ballot for tickets!
